Which flies in the face of it's ordinary usage, which smacks of needless revisionism.

Your 'should's" exhaust me, and make me want to watch Fox News. How about stop trying to dictate how to use words?
To sum up: Female is perfectly acceptable in a clinical/medical setting, but outside of that it should be used as an adjective.
why not just get all ruffled up about people doing so? Jens wasn't. He was neutrally referring to females as a group, just like doctors and scientists.
Like I said, I feel like the use of "female" negatively is more a matter of tone/context than anything. And that's the case with the connotation of any word.

The Hunger Games gets a ... different kind of review.
