Re: This report was probably a misinterpretation Datakim Send a noteboard - 14/07/2010 10:03:36 PM

Here RJ rather implies that the hanging was the fulfillment, but in the end he uses RAFO. This makes clear that the reports from 1996 probably also didn't got definite answers, but were just misinterpretations by the posters.

Maybe. Or it could be that RJ did answer that in 96. But he forgot that he had already given a definite answer and in the 99 answer he does the usual "vague-answer-RAFO" thing to try and keep the speculation going. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever know for sure.

As said, BS indicates as well that the hanging was the fulfillment, and he knows the notes.

BS has made mistakes before. He does not remember the notes with full clarity (perfectly understandable) afterall.

It actually also would make sense, because in the balefire incident Mat never died. Besides that, the whole Prophecy states: "To die and live again, and live once more a part of what was". The last part obviously refers to the old memories Mat got from the Eelfinn. But Mat already began to use these memories immediately after the hanging incident, not only after the balefire incident. Thus, it's more likely that the hanging fulfilled the Prophecy.

True enough. One thing that puzzles me a bit about this is that the prophecy basically says that Mat will live twice. Could it be that "live once more" means recovery from the hanging and "live again" means his resurrection via Balefire, and that the prophecy basically refers to BOTH events. :)

Probably not.
