I admit the possibility, but consider it highly unlikely for the reasons I pointed out. *NM* Etzel Send a noteboard - 16/07/2010 05:58:01 PM

In fact, BS's answer that there are flashbacks makes is highly likely that we will get a Graendal PoV.

For example, Perrin, but also Lan or Loial.

It's complete nonsense to bring back a character that died in Rand's timeline - which is up to date - with a scene before the death; something like this also never happened before in the series. One could also argue in a similarly absurd way then that we will "likely" get another Semirhage or Elza PoV from before their deaths, just because it would be cool.

We all agree that Perrin and Mat's timelines have to be advanced and that they are weeks (maybe months) behind everyone else. Other minor characters are also behind, e.g. Lan, and some of those minor characters might get a chapter devoted to them, particularly Lan.

Anyway, why are you assuming Graendal couldn't have been playing a role in the Mat or Perrin parts of the world?

Wouldn't you agree that if Graendal has a part to play with what is happening to Mat or Perrin then she could appear in the next book? I think you have to agree of that possibility.

You're making a completely different argument in your other posts. You're saying that it would be awkward, from a literary perspective, to have a dead character make a reappearance in a later book. I agree, but that doesn't preclude the possibility of seeing Graendal in this next book.

Also, remember that originally there was only going to be one final book. The decision to split the final 900K words into three books might have made the difference here. For example, suppose that RJ always intended to reveal Asmo's killer via a Graendal POV in one of the Perrin or Mat threads. It is not too hard to imagine how the Asmo reveal might have been pushed back to ToM simply because there wasn't room in TGS due to the way the storylines were chopped up.

In any event, even if Graendal is dead (and I think she is) you cannot completely rule out seeing her in ToM because ToM goes backward in time by several weeks/months.

You should at least admit the possibility.
