It used to be listed in the old FAQ - you can find the article at The Thirteenth Depository, probably at a later date.

Anyway, RJ was inspired by the nunnerys of the Catholic church from a time period of about the 14-16th centuries, as well as the Catholic Church throughout it's history (you can even read up on the Church's history and find almost exact parallels between certain incidents, such as times when multiple popes were elected and when others were seen as failures).

Hopefully that article makes it's return, because it was very detailed.
