I agree. I wonder whether the other female death eaters are under Voldemort's spell in the same way as Bellatrix. Could there be some way in which it is acceptable for them to act as something outside their position as women based on some sort of obsession cult around Voldemort? I am speculating wildly now, in an attempt to make sense of the apparent contradiction. Or is there a married woman/unmarried aspect? Bellatrix was married, but what happened to her husband? Did he get killed?
He may well resent his wife being only interested in Voldemort, but if he does he's smart enough not to make that public. And nah, I think Bellatrix is a special case there. I figure the sexism is just not entirely consistent - women taking active roles is frowned upon, but not unheard of. And Narcissa's presence at the meeting may be more because she's the host than because she takes an active role as a Death Eater.
It is written later, but I still think there was an element of the Grand Tour up until the first world war. Although less fixed in form.
Okay.
You mean that the lack of a fluffy set of happy memories which has been Dudley's cushion all his life was such a shock it make him catatonic on its own, without any particularly bad memory to cause it?
I mean that you seem overly fixated on the unhappy memories aspect of the Dementors. For Harry the memories of his parents' death is of course the worst part of a Dementor attack, but even if someone had no unhappy memories at all, such an attack would be traumatic - the cold, the feeling of helplessness, the feeling that there is nothing good in the world anymore.
Yes, but aren't we told in book 3 that the reason why Dementors affect Harry more than other people is because there are true horrors in his past, unlike his classmates who have only experienced moderately bad things. The effect of a dementor is therefore tied quite explicitly to the past experiences of the person affected. Dudley's reaction is worse even than Harry's, which suggests, to me at least, that there must be something fairly traumatic in his past. Unless you read it as him simply not being used to being without the pampering cloud of Petunia's love, which would be taken away by the dementor attack. But that seems too simple to me.
