Phèdre is a large part of what makes the books good. The second trilogy is as good as the first in terms of story, I'm sure, but it just feels less interesting because the main character is not Phèdre (and because it's not as original anymore, I guess).
I completely agree. Though Imriel grew on me, and I'm going to re-read his trilogy next. I've overdosed on historical fiction in the last while and need a change of pace. Which reminds me, I have to pester Tash about reading Sharon Penman.
Incidentally, I just read Racine's tragedy Phèdre, about the character in Greek mythology she was named after - there are a few references to that in the books too. It was interesting, though I can't say I found many similarities.
Really? I love the name, actually, should probably read the play (is it a play?) before naming my firstborn though.....
