I've long advocated this for the reasons Tom states as well as others.

This is why I am very much in favour of the compulsory teaching of philosophy to everyone who starts university in Norway. I would ideally have liked to see it earlier, as a component of high school, but I cannot make myself agree with the people who would discard it entirely because it is ``not relevant'' to their studies.
It's odd that despite ever more demands that schools teach critical thinking skills, philosophy classes below the university level are unheard of, and philosophy in general is often dismissed as irrelevant by those ardently campaigning for schools to teach more critical thinking. It's like they set out to become the poster children for their own arguments.

More importantly, compulsory metaphysics classes for all students would obviate my need to habitually explain things like the distinction between "evidence" and "proof."

We really need to have Logic as a course in high schools.
