No one is free of bias, but a little effort can go a long way toward preserving non-partisanship by minimizing the effect of bias on tone and presentation of bare facts. Note: I claim no expertise there, and will not pretend I bother trying much anymore; I am far too cynical now. That may be why I do not object to editorializing itself (though I often object to specific editorials) so long as commentary and interpretation remain distinct from actual events. Stating Japan bombed Pearl Harbor is completely non-partisan; blaming isolationist for leaving the US unprepared or hawks for provoking the attack is not.
