I understand that in 2017, information is likely the most valuable commodity of all. But I doubt if the laws were that forward-thinking when they were enacted. It's a stretch to apply a law written to prevent foreign interests from financially influencing our elections to an exchange of intelligence. Rather than have an activist court expand the definition of existing laws, I would much prefer that new laws be passed to deal with the realities of the information era.
