Are you saying that limiting freedoms via acts of the state legislature is somehow more egregious than doing so via control of the media, social media and public discourse?
Are you saying that limiting freedoms via acts of the state legislature is somehow more egregious than doing so via control of the media, social media and public discourse?
What control? Who has this control?
Laws passed by the state can have their constitutionality challenged in the courts. What recourse does one have when hounded from their careers for questioning progressive orthodoxy?
Hounded by whom? If it's other people on Twitter, that's their free speech. Of course laws are worse than the opprobrium of society. You cannot prevent society/a segment of society from venting their displeasure at you without taking away their rights.
And what is the point of trying to quantify whether one is worse than the other? Are we so tribal we can't acknowledge both are bad without having to argue that "your side is worse?"
Yes, we are, if we're saying there's any kind of equivalence between legal threats to the First Amendment and social disapproval. The one is protected activity. The other is, by it's very nature, a violation of the very amendment we're discussing.
So Elon and Twitter
