Egwene on the other hand....if the Dark One had had a clue, he could have done as much damage if not more arguebly by focusing his efforts on Egwene instead of Rand throughout the books but that's here nor there at this point.

Yep, just think how well things would have gone if the Shadow had seen Elaida pulled down months earlier to let Egwene take charge. Even if she had subsequently purged the BA, imagine a confrontation between Mary Sue and Dark Rand. Whether Rand killed most of the AS or the AS shielded Rand (likely precipitating his followers to attack the Tower) it would have been all over for the Light.
