And as for "Egwene and Rand have been fighting since they were toddlers..." from tDR on, Rand hasn't been fighting with Egwene- Egwene has been fighting with Rand. Their relationship isn't a "buddy-buddy bickering" relationship- it's a "I'm still the domineering girl from the village of our childhood still treating you like you're a stuttering man-child that doesn't know what's best for you" relationship.


That sounds right.

Rand wants to be able to trust Egwene. He knows there are many AS he can't trust, he only trusted Moiraine and Cadsuane reluctantly. He also knows he needs the AS no matter how much he doesn't trust them, and I think he's hoping that Egwene will be an Amyrlin he can trust.

Egwene however, doesn't feel the same need to reach out to him. She's still influenced by the whole TR woman need to browbeat men, with the AS love of manipulation mixed in. So instead of seeing Rand having to make the tough decisions a leader needs to make, that she herself has had to make, she's going to disapprove of what he's doing. Like she's been doing since what, tSR? Except that unlike books 4-6, she should know better by now.

And there's the whole AS swearing fealty bit. I think that's where her greatest anger is going to come in because it's completely wrong in the eyes of the AS for them to swear fealty to anyone. Never mind that she's blackmailed several AS into swear fealty to her, compared to AS swearing to Rand out of the blue because Verin Compelled them to do so. If Egwene hypocrisy over Rand re-emerges, it's likely to be that. And it's such a shame after the growth she was showing in the last two books.
