Spanking has no effect on Egwene because it's just pain. Her ability to take the pain and still keep her nose stuck up in the air feeds her sense of superiority. The fact that Silviana failed to see that and adjust her punishments accordingly made her character a joke. What she should have done was put Egwene's hair in pigtails and made her tote a doll around with her the way the Aiel did when she was behaving particularly childish. By forcing her to do something that causes OTHERS to look down upon her, they would have managed to put a crack in her arrogance. Egwene can take pain if she has to but she can't take being made a joke of, which is precisely what Silviana and the Reds should have done.

If they wanted a mere spanking to get through to her, all they would have had to done was bare her ass on the Warder training field, put her over their knees, and spank her till she howled. To bring her punishments into the light, where others could see her being treated like a child instead of an "imprisoned Amyrlin who was being beaten" would have been the intelligent thing to do. All they did, instead, was allow her to behave as an arrogant wench and manage to convince everyone that her resistance was "brave" instead of childish. Of course, the entire WT plotline was ludicrous, if you ask me. That two hundred year old women allowed a novice to push them around was laughable. Had it been written realistically, Egwene's "plight" would have been a joke in the Tower and, at the very least, the Black Ajah hunters would have put her in her place and put an end to her quest for power.

The bottom line is that girl needs to be humiliated in front of all of those who act like she is some kind of god and she needs to be humiliated in a big way. What's more, since she has always looked down on Rand and thinks he should be groveling to her, Rand is the one who needs to humiliate her. Publicly. Then, perhaps, she could stop acting like a twit and work with him instead of trying to control him.

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. He'll bend his knee to her and be humiliated and treated like garbage just like anyone else who dares go against Egweenie. As was RJ's intent, after she has stomped him down he'll prostrate himself before her and swear to obey her every order without question. That way Egwene can take credit for defeating the Dark One since she'll be running the show and Rand will be naught but a tool for her to use. It will make me lose my lunch when I read it.
