and then there's the strangely easy way in which Theon shakes it all off, in the end. Or at least, at the point where I am now, I've still got about a third of the book to go.

The worse thing is, he shakes it off when needed, then he's back to being Reek the Rhyming Wonder whenever it suits the plot. For all the good characterization GRRM sometimes does, his belief that people are going to accept a changed character just because a chapter is titles Theon instead of Reek, is absurd.
