This is one of the problems of running a book club across this wide range of people with their interests and capabilities. Not everyone will find the book as devoid of depth & discussion points as you do, and not everyone will see all of the depth in books like Madame Bovary or The Master and Margarita.

As we have to cater to your tastes, so we have to cater to the tastes of others. Swings and roundabouts. Hopefully next time there'll be something more to your liking.

At least you know now that The Count of Monte Cristo is not what it's made out to be. ;)
