Practice. We do know that AS practice their weaves far more than WO darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 13/12/2010 10:50:09 PM

I agree that Amys is likely not as adept at shielding as an AS which likely contributed to Egwene's ability to break the shield, but Egwene was also certainly at a lower strength level in that scene too.

There is no proof that the Aes Sedai are better at shielding than the Aiel. We only know that the Aes Sedai know how to shield a man, which the Wise Ones do not, because they send their men to the Blight. Amys is just as good at shielding as any Aes Sedai. Even with that, there is no proof that there is any skill to shielding other than holding the weave (apart from the Talent).

Amy's even admits it in ToM ... it's suggestive, but that's about all ... Siliviana is after all a Red so Shielding is probably something she's trained with extensively in Shielding men anyway ... no real reason to believe that Amys would have equal skill with a weave she probably hasn't used very often. Much like Nynaeve's lack of skill with the weave contributed to her being unable to shield Elayne later in the series.

But to your point Amys could just as easily be equally skilled for some reason ... I tend to think otherwise though :)
