What I would prefer him to do was confront her and balefire her personally. He should have defeated her like he did other "smart" opponents.
Have you heard of the saying two wrongs don't make a right? I don't believe killing a village to get at one tyrant is the morally correct or humane to do. Killing a lot of people at one time is mass murder, and that is what Rand did.
