But Jesus did not introduce a new canon- he worked entirely based on the Hebrew Scriptures. The New Testament came after him, and spends most of its time referencing the old.

The biggest change wrought by Christianity on the faith that came before it is in fact not Christmas or Easter, but rather Pentacost, the day in which the Holy Spirit stopped working through individual prophets and was rather given to all followers. It was the end of the Prophet. So when a Smith comes along and claims to be one, with secret knowledge... this is a problem.

But absolutely. Like I said, if that kind of paradigm shift took place again, there would most certainly be upheaval, and not just for Christians. A clear, undoubtable message from God that changes everything would not get rid of the Atheist community overnight, either.
