To me, it depends on the nature of the contact, which I have not dug enough to discover.
Joel Send a noteboard - 03/02/2012 10:43:45 PM
It took me fifteen seconds to find CBS reporting that 20+ senators had contacted them. Try not let the knee twitch so much where you hear the words Fox News.
But hey great to see you have an impression of what really happened even if it is merely uninformed speculation.
But hey great to see you have an impression of what really happened even if it is merely uninformed speculation.
Remember, I said I felt there was no political pressure, including the GOP Representatives investigation of Planned Parenthood (though Komen seems to feel differently based on their statement in the article Isaac first linked.) Maybe that is semantics, but elected officials should not be forced to swear vows of silence once they assume office. As I said to Isaac, they should be able to express their personal views AS their personal views (e.g. Kerry et al. stating themselves to be PERSONALLY Pro Life while supporting Pro Choice LEGISLATION because they 1) cannot impose their personal views on everyone and 2) must uphold current law.) It SOUNDS like the senators contacting Komen on behalf of Planned Parenthood did so in their capacity as senators rather than private citizens, which would qualify as political pressure in my book, but I do not know if that was actually the case.
But, yes, my impression was just that, and nothing more, as stated. I never claimed expertise on this issue and have admitted I lack it, though I am not as wholly ignorant as 48 hours ago or I would not know about the founder of Komen serving two different ambassadorships covering half Bush 43s administration, or was a member of every GOP administration since Carter left office. Like I said, it is probably about 25 years too late to worry about Komen being "politically influenced." Certainly not given their statement in the Fox article, which cited a political dimension unrelated and prior to any action by any senators.
