That changes nothing about how you said she was breaking the board's rules in the first place, when she has yet to do any such thing: obtaining a lawyer to legally overturn an unjust rule isn't against the rules.

Furthermore, the school's publication of the rules and conditions for whom could attend prom with whom and how they were to dress is the true source of the matter since that's what provoked her to seek counsel. Using your analogy, the school board is the high-and-mighty bully pushing the little people around and when someone went and got their big brother, the bully ran home and locked the door behind them to avoid facing the consequences.
