Even if the school did have rules against PDAs at the prom, what makes you think this girl would have followed them? She was already trying to violate the dress code policy. Why assume she wouldn't try and violate the "no PDAs" policy?

It's not like she just showed up and expected to be let in. Going through a process/appeal to try to change the rules actually demonstrates respect for said rules.
Your argument is basically like saying that a legislator who has proposed an amendment to fix something he disagrees with can't be trusted to adhere to other existing laws.


It's like saying that a legislator wants to change two anti-speeding laws. We should let them because it won't mess things up too badly. After all, there will still be one anti-speeding law left on the books after he has had his way, preventing things from getting too dangerous.

Even if that one law were indeed enough to keep things safe on the roads, such thinking will do little to reassure his opponents. After all, he has already shown himself quite willing to challenge two anti-speeding laws. What makes us think that he, or someone else, won't now challenge the third?

My point is that saying it won't screw things up to change two long standing rules because "there are rules" to keep things from getting too uncomfortable is a hollow reassurance to those opposed to it. If two rules go, others can go too.
