Travel more, you'd be amazed what you consider reasonable when you've visited certain places. It gives one an amazing appreciation for how incredibly tolerant and enlightened even the 'backwaters' in this country are.

It's easy to go "grahhr America hatin on all the gays grahhhr," but while I was in southeast asia, at least, it was kind of astounding how even the more "modern" parts had stuff like "if you even mention something bad about the king, you can be locked up."

Still, that's almost irrelevant to this. If we're "enlightened" enough to not get upset over showing ankles and faces and free speech and all the rest, it's a pretty short step to going, "Oh, who cares if you're wearing a tie?"

Gotta also be enlightened enough to say 'Yeah, you're a bit out of date, and I'm definitely gonna tell you so in no uncertain terms, but this particular injustice maybe isn't worth fighting in this way'

I don't know, it seems such weird thing to debate over, she's won, for all practical purposes, it's in the public eye, she's got the lion share of sympathy, even on fairly far right sites the commentary is basically 50/50 split, mostly of the 'this is wrong' vs 'this wrong but so is the her action' type. I don't like trying to cram change down people's throats, it backfires, sometimes you have to, for real major injustices you have to stomp on people's necks, I'm just not convinced that this is one such case. That's my attitude on the gay rights aspect of this, on the dress code, really, I'm a traditionalist, people are welcome to wander around in the attire of their choice, but I really don't feel right about someone pushing into a very formal and symbolic event like this and changing the rules.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
