Are we making the base assumption that she is to believed?
No, we are saying she isn't to be dismissed. That her accusations are grave, and on the face of it, credible, since she has spoken of it years before. It warrants an investigation. I don't know anyone who is asking for Kavanaugh to be convicted of rape just because of the allegation.
Are we saying it is okay to attempt rape at 17? What kind of message is that to teenagers? And exactly what kind of standard is that for a Supreme Court judge?
Further, he lied about it now, if she's right. How is that not a problem?
Did he apologize? Did he get punished for his crime, and then come to rebuild his life?
Interesting. What are your thoughts on felon disenfranchisement?
Leaving someone to die, I can see, but how is cheating on your wife worse than attempted rape?
And why is that? Women often don't come forward at all, because they are disbelieved. What message do we send by saying we don't care, as a society?
If you read the New Yorker article, you would know that Ramriez didn't contact them. Classmates of both her and Kavanaugh were discussing the incident on email, and someone talked to the press. This happened in July, before Dr. Blasey came forward. Ramirez herself was reluctant to, especially after seeing the shitshow last week, and only decided to after a lot of soul searching on whether she could keep quiet now. This seems to aid her credibility, not diminish it.
