Hell, the only Catholic president and Vice President in the history of this country were Catholics, and so was every Catholic nominated by a major party (Smith, Kennedy & Kerry). In the last 50 years most Democratic presidential tickets had a Catholic, but only two Republicans. One of whom is Paul Ryan, one of the loudest anti-Trump voices in the party apart from the candidates themselves.

Because, well, being strongly socialist doesn't really fit with being devoutly Catholic, as the Flemings historically were. Nowadays, of course, while Belgian Christians remain nearly 100 percent Catholic as they have been since the 1590s or so, they are also for the most part non-practicing.

I'm not really sure what point you were trying to make there about Belgium, but I don't really think it worked?
