View original postAre we making the base assumption that she is to believed?

View original postNo, we are saying she isn't to be dismissed. That her accusations are grave, and on the face of it, credible, since she has spoken of it years before. It warrants an investigation. I don't know anyone who is asking for Kavanaugh to be convicted of rape just because of the allegation.

Her accusation is far from grave....especially since the other witnesses (either 2 or 4....since that's changed) deny it ever happening. It warranted an investigation 36 years ago. Not now. And if he can't be convicted of a crime, than it has nothing to do with now. Not at all.
View original postI'm talking about the first individual. If we are saying "Yes" to that on her word alone, then we are then letting something that someone did (and was not prosecuted for) 36 years in the past, when they were in High School, keep them from a promotion in their job?

View original postAre we saying it is okay to attempt rape at 17? What kind of message is that to teenagers? And exactly what kind of standard is that for a Supreme Court judge?

So far she's the only one that said attempted rape. From her accusation, forced sexual assault would probably be the statute. She says her bathing suit was on, and she didn't say his penis was out. I don't know how it works out there, but in this state, gotta be more than over the clothes stuff to be attempted rape.
Now right here, stop thinking that this one man is setting examples and standards for teenagers. He is not. You want someone setting an example...look at instagram. Those are the standards teens are looking at. Start judging them before you judge him. I hold public servants to no higher example than anyone else. They are still human. I don't look to humans as an example of my allowable conduct.
View original postFurther, he lied about it now, if she's right. How is that not a problem?

A problem enough to disqualify him?
View original postHow much have you changed in the last 36 years? How much have you accomplished since you became an adult? Now you are judging him and saying that all of that is invalid?

View original postDid he apologize? Did he get punished for his crime, and then come to rebuild his life?

He doens't need to apologize for something that didn't happen.
View original postThat's a tough place to stand, considering that no one would qualify for anything.

View original postInteresting. What are your thoughts on felon disenfranchisement?

This is a tough place for me, since I can see both sides clearly. One one hand, you paid your debt to society, so that should be the end of it. But then on the other hand, you screwed up bad enough to be convicted of a felony. You have lost your right to vote, since you've blatantly demonstrated that you cannot be trusted in society. Like I said...tough call. I'm of two minds on this.
View original postOne person sees this alleged activity as the worse, while I see something else (say getting drunk, crashing you car, and leaving a woman to die) as worse. Along the same lines, I see cheating on your spouse and lying about it under oath as that much worse. Yet the levels of "outrage" are no where near the same.

View original postLeaving someone to die, I can see, but how is cheating on your wife worse than attempted rape?

I fully admit that I'm old school on this. I see cheating on your spouse as one of the worst things a person can do. It's a violation of trust to someone you profess to love. I get that there are many things in play, but that's much worse than attempted rape in my eyes.
View original postOn the other hand, if we are not going to take her allegations as fact, and instead are going to wait for testimony, then this sets a very bad precedent in the fact that we are now giving 36 year old, unsubstantiated allegations a stage and forum for discussion....

View original postAnd why is that? Women often don't come forward at all, because they are disbelieved. What message do we send by saying we don't care, as a society?

What message are we saying when we destroy someone's life off of the allegations (not fact) from someone. I can say right now that "Fionwe fondled me when I was 6 years old." I can yell this from the highest mountain (social media). I can work the talk show circuit. I can get it on legitimate news sources. All I need is some click-bait, big name lawyers, the internet rage machine, a hashtag, and a predisposed to hate you media...and I'm in the clear. No measure of truth needed.
View original postAs for the other accusers (which the more I read about it are even more unsubstantiated than the original), it seems more like a political smear. The timing of the entire thing. All of it seems designed by the Democrats as "Win in any way possible. Damn the truth if need be. Win."

View original postIf you read the New Yorker article, you would know that Ramriez didn't contact them. Classmates of both her and Kavanaugh were discussing the incident on email, and someone talked to the press. This happened in July, before Dr. Blasey came forward. Ramirez herself was reluctant to, especially after seeing the shitshow last week, and only decided to after a lot of soul searching on whether she could keep quiet now. This seems to aid her credibility, not diminish it.

Every shred of it (including the original accusation) stinks of lack of credibility. Why? The timing of it all. The Democrats and mainstream media have been screaming to high heaven that they need to defeat this nomination at all costs. Now something from decades ago comes up at the last possible moment? This after the Democrats came out against him moments after he was nominated. The only way they would have voted for Trump's pick is if it was Obama himself.
