Nah, it pretty much served only to make Elaida look like a noble cut away from the world, fixating on her luxuries rather than her duties. The carpet scene does the same. And it's true, of course, but I think we all knew this a good while ago. It could have been seen back in The Eye of the World when she made the Royal Palace's garden bloom, but after that absurd notion of erecting a palace for herself that rivaled the White Tower itself, it was abundantly clear.

And that's just it, it's easy enough to demonstrate the point through Elaida's actions without the need for such a blatant exaggeration through contrast. It just feels gauche.
