Is in any way qualified to be the judge/jury/executioner of these poor souls. He took away any possible chance they may have had of ever being freed of her! Nynaeve thinks about this after he tricked her into unraveling Kerbs compulsion... it would be like a Judge deciding that a person must be pulled off life support without having a Dr. examine them first... simply because others who had the same injury could not be cured.
I find that repugnant!
Your argument is around what people who are currently incapable of choosing would choose... I say they would choose to be cured, or at least have the effort made to be cured before they were summarily executed for being mind controlled.
But LTT/Rand DID have experience. He did know. You say that it was like a judge deciding to pull someone from life support without having a doctor examine them first. A good argument.
But I would argue that this is not true. I think doctors DID examine the patients to see if there was hope of recovery before pulling the plug. A lot of doctors with more overall experience than Nynaeve.
I speak ofcourse of the restorers in the AoL. There is no way I will believe that the AoLers did not try to heal damage caused by Graendal. And yet LTT knows that no-one managed to do it in the AoL. He even quotes the name of one such unfortunate person.
So yes, I think Rand has pretty good reasons to think that there really was no hope for Graendals unfortunate victims, and that Nynaeves belief that they could be healed is wrong. Nynaeve cannot even bring back Rand's hand. How is she supposed to fix a BRAIN that has been utterly destroyed.
The fact that stilling was healed is irrelevant. Just because Nynaeve managed to do it (a remarkable feat to be sure), does not mean that she is better in every area of healing than AoL healers.
Let me ask you a question. What would you have done in Rand's place?
As for LTT and Balefire ... what makes you think LTT was in control at that point? Every other scene with BF and LTT we've had LTT talks about the dangers, even the Forsaken pretty much refuse to use it!
I was wrong about the balefire.
Rand the psycho?
