That concept is alien to the Christian theological understanding, however.
Tom Send a noteboard - 03/10/2011 10:18:55 PM
A Christian can admit evolution of faith, but not revolution. One of the fundamental cornerstones of the miracle of the Incarnation is that it was a radical event that eliminated the need for future radical events.
The concept of a "prophet" was an Old Testament idea, someone who acted on God's behalf to advise Israel. There is no more need for that. That isn't to say that God doesn't perform miracles or move people to say "the right thing at the right time".
However, we are in a situation where everyone has direct access to God through Christ, but where no one is elevated to act as a mouthpiece for God ever again.
As a result, the situation that you're talking about runs counter to everything we understand about the miracle of the Incarnation.
This does not mean that our faith cannot evolve. As I noted in my review of An Introduction to Christianity by Pope Benedict XVI (back when he was chief theologian of the Church and not pope), the idea that "faith must be made anew over and over again" is not incompatible with Christianity.
Of course, don't get me started on Biblical literalists. I agree with what Benedict said when he compared them to the pagans who fought the advance of Christianity. No, seriously, go read the review if you haven't. You'll see what I'm saying.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
