Maybe Xeroxes of abridged texts and dumbed down theology

The Catholic Church was most obviously corrupt and venal when Luther nailed his theses to the church door in Wittenberg. The problem is that, by introducing at once Bibles in the vernacular and the sola scriptura method of theology, each splinter group was a poor copy of what preceded it, to the point where one sees heresies particular to America, such as Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons, who aren't even Christians because their copy is so garbled and unusable.
True. The further one gets from the actual schism, the worse it gets. It's hard for me to think of a non-ecclesiastical church as being anything more than an echo chamber where the most ignorant can (and do) view themselves as being as knowledgeable as the presumed leaders.
Christians can try to instruct them as to the error of their ways and the crudeness of their scriptures, but at the end of the day all anyone can do with an unrepentant Mormon is feel sorry for them, sigh, shake your head and just ignore their faith.
Quite true. For me, if there is an organization whose history does not date at the latest to the 6th century, that group's theology (or poor excuse for it) will not interest me. Monophysites and Monohelites are much, much more interesting than Campbellites or Mormons.
