Not many in here were making any comment regarding the ethics of abortion (other than sharing of a few personal opinions). We started out discussing how it seemed to me that SGK's change was for political reasons. I never claimed to be right, but I did say what I felt. I'm not sure how that is a whole lot different than what you said, except that we're looking at it from slightly different angles.
Sharing personal views of abortion beyond stating I am X invariably involves commenting on the ethics of abortion. And there are some fairly big whoppers in terms of outright insult or disparagement of the opposition, I believe you when you say you missed them, but that hardly removes them, and I can't judge if you just didn't read them or read them and didn't see them. They're there though, Joel caught two of them himself, and I assure you that if Joel and I are in agreement about someone drifting over the line, odds the objection is legit even if the flavor or nature of our objections might differ.
I opened the thread I meant to, and we're still pretty much on that topic (tags = komen, PP, political?, breast cancer screenings, PP services, funding, investigation/new rules, new VP, etc). Abortion only enters the debate of necessity, since it is the obvious sticking point for the "sides" we're discussing.
Regardless, the com board is where people go to discuss things, whether they donate to a charity or stick to the pink bucket of chicken.
Including people complaining about political post, yes, I know. It's where I go to, amongst other things, discuss my views about people who say things without researching them or express views or use language under semi-anonymity that would get them excluded from polite company. Personally I get a grim satisfaction about my own worldview from it. No, I've got no beef with your thread, and most posts were just fine, civil, and interesting enough for me to follow, this doesn't stop me from wanting to deliver a few appropriate slaps where I believe they were due. You may disagree, and I'd prefer not to call them out by name, but I consider them appropriate. I also think people need the occasional reminder that, much like sneering at paparazzi while reading the tabloids, just because something pops up in the news doesn't mean it really entitles them -morally - to render judgments, legally of course they may, as may I upon them. You may or may not agree that this is such a case, and I do not claim it is an extreme example, but I do believe some in this thread also exceeded their moral authority to condone or condemn.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
