Re: "Pursuing their ideology" beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 12/03/2010 07:23:54 PM

I don't think she's a selfish bitch, I don't think she ruined it for everyone. I just think that it's worth considering that maybe both 'sides' on this issue might be pursuing their ideology while forgetting about everyone else getting trampled.

Even if it was solely a big political ploy (which it doesn't seem to be, it's not like you see the girl making the circuits on Larry King and the rest)... you act like it's a bad thing that the girl wants the right to go the prom with another girl. It's not her fault that a simple request causes this much backlash.

Without trying to sound too bombastic, change rarely happens without ruffling feathers. If something is happening right now that is unjust, which is better? Wait a decade or two, and hope that gradual culture attitudes might one day allow a girl to go with another girl to the prom? Or to change the unjust policy right now?

The girl didn't say, "If you don't let me in with my girlfriend, I order you to SHUT THE WHOLE PROM DOWN!" That was the school's decision. And before you say they were just trying to defuse a PR situation, that situation would never have existed in the first place if they hadn't been bigots.

(Oh, and I rolled my eyes at your comments on tuxedos and school uniforms, but it's not really relevant right now...)
I amuse myself.
