Why don't you show me where I said marriage is holy OR made a religious argument, you imbecile?

Your premise ignores the issue of "tyranny of the masses".
To be axiomic, that which expands rights under the law is just: that which does not, is injust.
Bullshit. I don't believe that. Prove the "axiomic" principle you are stating. How is your asserting this position any different from the people who think it axiomatic that homosexual is wrong and always will be? That is their belief and your belief in the expansion of rights is not superior just because it is YOU who believes it. To be axiomic, that which expands rights under the law is just: that which does not, is injust.
Within the legal strictures and priviledges of marriage, what does it matter whether or not the two people are the same sex or not?
Because it is for different sexes. Otherwise, why not call men women and women men? Our legal and cultural foundations may by inspired by Christian values, but we're not a theocracy.
So what? I guess we should go back to all those same-sex marriages of the pagan countries, like ancient Rome and Greece and Egypt...oh, wait. Marriage has been around a lot longer than Christianity. It was simply another institution Christianity coopted for its own reasons. Our view of marriage has nothing to do with Christianity and everything to do with a millenia-old tradition of a single characteristic in its practice. Even societies in our traditions that did not have an issue with same-sex relations did not have same-sex marriage.
Same-sex marriages couldn't possibly do more to "defile the sanctity of marriage" than how marriage is treated in this country by opposite-sex marriagess (50% divorce rate, anyone?).
By this line of thought, it is impossible to rape a slut. Stealing from a poor person is acceptable, because it's no big loss. Beating up on someone who is already badly injured is cool, because they were already disabled. Not to mention that throughout history marriage has predominantly been for economic bonds, political pacts, financial gain (which is still so common that we colloquially refer to it as "gold-digging" ), etc... hardly building a tradition of sanctity you claim to be supporting.
I don't. Idiot. I am opposed to same-sex marriage, because it is a ridiculous affectation and a crusade for a special privilege by a group that already has equality, and is making outrageous demands that people twist their practices to conform to this small group's bizarre and outrageous desires. In fact, all that anti-marriage stuff you cite is EXACTLY why I am opposed to same-sex marriage - there are economic and legal issues that affect people who have nothing to do with the marriages themselves, and same sex marriages will force others to conform to these positions even if they do not believe in it. If it were a simple stupid romantic commitment, I would not give a damn what they got up to or chose to call themselves. It is their attempts to horn in on those societal positions that I take issue with.
