You raised some other good points there, with which I basically agree, and yes I'm strictly talking about the clothes, I have absolutely no prob with her raising a fuss about the gay aspect, which is not to say I have a prob with the schoolboard fighting it either, just that I view that as a legitimate battle either way and I do not view the dress code as one and I don't think it should be involved, but it happens to basically be the entire premise of the legal suit. I don't blame her for doing this, I would say I respect her for it, except I don't, because I'm assuming she's not old enough and mature enough to fully appreciate the consequences that she might face. If she really did go into this with eyes wide open then she has my sincerest respect regardless of whether I agree with her cause, but she's young, so probably not, and for the same reason, the disruption she's causing is not something I blame her for because I think she was too young to realize the consequences. That same youth excuses her from the moral ambiguity involved with how most of the consequences are happening to other children. So even if I viewed this as petty, I wouldn't be angry at her over it.



Oh, I thought about it myself when writing it, however, these days people protest with little consequence and many who protest are so within their shell of zeal that they don't even acknowledge the collateral damage caused by it. If a firefight breaks out between the good guys and the bad guys, and a bunch of innocent bystanders get caught in the middle, it's a bit hard to just say "Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." and move on. That's not to say you shouldn't have done it, but acknowledging your part in their suffering is - to me - a pretty big factor in deciding who the good guys and the bad guys are. And sometimes it is better to fall back and try another day when less collateral damage is going to result, sometimes not, you have to make a decision and deal with the consequences, you can't ignore them.

Sometimes - and I am not saying this was one of those times - you've got to say 'yeah, I'm right and they're wrong, but pursuing this isn't right'. So between Rosa Parks and PETA-extremists bashing in some lab guards head to free the lab rats who then run free while infected with a disease and bit locals, there is a big swath of grey. I hardly think she's anywhere near the latter, but I don't think she's Rosa Parks either.
