The only way they can convince people to come to the University of Chicago is by making sure their police force is extremely well staffed, responsive and unforgiving of anyone who commits even the smallest misdemeanor once they step onto university property. Everyone in the neighborhood knows you don't mess around on campus. But their jurisdiction ends at the edge of campus, and so to warn students they clearly mark when someone is leaving campus.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
