Faulkner is the most famous of them, but he has some really heavy stream of consciousness that makes his novels difficult to read. You could try his short stories; "A Rose for Emily" is one of my favorites. Another great author is Flannery O'Connor. Some famous stories of hers are "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" and "A Good Man is Hard to Find."
