I don't think it takes that much to exercise imagination in this regard. Rand's defeated Rahvin by confronting him directly, and Rahvin's modus operandi and intelligence mirror Graendals pretty well.
Yet for some reason, you did not supply any of those alternative explanations despite the fact that I asked.
Rand/LTT expliticly says, that unlike Rahvin, Graendal would not try to fight or defeat Rand. The instant she was attacked, or more likely the instant her wards sensed Rand in her palace, she would open a gateway and flee to the other side of the world. She would NOT react like Rahvin. That is made PERFECTLY clear.
Unless you can supply a way for Rand to take out Graendal successfully, without giving her a chance to escape, and without killing anyone else. I will assume that what Rand did was the only possible way.
Prove me wrong. Explain how Rand would have defeated Graendal. And first reread the part of the book where Rand explains the difficulty of the situation to Min&Nynaeve&Ramshalan, so that the problem Rand faces is fresh in your mind.
Rand the psycho?
