Of course, Acts 2:17 states very clearly that all men and women are filled with the Holy Spirit.

However, let's just pretend that it happened. Deuteronomy 18 allows us to test a prophet. Quite simply, everything that he prophesies must come to pass. If he is wrong on any actual prophecy, even once, then he is a false prophet, and that is how we are to know him.

Joe Smith had lots of false prophecies (obviously). His entire life was a lie. We can therefore, in a Christian context, know that he was a false prophet.

If someone else came by and started making prophecies and they all came true, even then some might think he was from the devil and not from God due to the Biblical statements, which are pretty unequivocal. However, if he claimed that he was a Prophet from God and did not contradict the Bible in any way or make any prophecies that failed to come true, then it would be a much harder situation for a lot of believers.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
