Because, well, being strongly socialist doesn't really fit with being devoutly Catholic, as the Flemings historically were. Nowadays, of course, while Belgian Christians remain nearly 100 percent Catholic as they have been since the 1590s or so, they are also for the most part non-practicing.

I'm not really sure what point you were trying to make there about Belgium, but I don't really think it worked?


I was wondering how that fit. I was under the impression that the people who wanted to split the country had socio-economic motivations besides the ethnic ones. It was not a essay-type post and I don't generally bother editing or back checking these.
