The word flow is good,

Okay, but what exactly is word flow? Google has proven unhelpful. 'Flow' would, presumably, qualify the words as being continuous, smooth, and effortless. If correct, what does that specifically entail? I can imagine, supposing the definition is correct, some blatantly bad word flow, such as disjointed sentences or ideas, or awkwardly constructed ones, but I imagine you mean something more than these opening lines simply not being bad.

the sentences alternate between long and short to punctuate and accent the prose in the right spots

Excellent. This would be, I assume, the 'tempo' DomA was referring to?

and the prose itself is vivid.

This is just another way of saying that the prose 'paints beautiful pictures'. I understand the words. I understand that you claim they are evocative, what I don't understand is why.
