Re: Here's why its not random... fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 30/10/2012 01:51:03 PM

Actually, that's probably not even true. I guess people who want to go to university also have a bell curve IQ, but probably with a higher average than the general population.

Well, if we're basing this on guess work...
In any case, it is perfecly reasonable that high IQ is correlated with wanting to go to university. It is not perfecly reasonable that being a potentially strong channeler is correlated with wanting to become Aes Sedai, since most people don't know they can channel when they decide.

Why does high IQ tie in with wanting to go to university? Remember, I'm not talking about successfully entering university, or succeeding once in. I'm talking about the desire to go at all, and not because of social or financial pressures, but due to active curiosity and need to learn.

So instead of choosing a self consistent approach, like for example having them recruit only 200 novices, he ignores his previous comment about the 62.5%.

Serisouly, there is no point throwing out numbers like 62.5% if he just ignores them whenever it's convenient.

He has not contradicted himself. The 62.5% is a global average. Every minuscule subset doesn't have to adhere to it. This fact allowed him to reduce the AS intake of the Rebels, to ramp up tension without sacrificing the rules he built up.

Again, it could well be that people from Norther Alatara are generally weaker in the power. I can't argue against that.

I don't think so. We have no idea what the average strength of those 200 women is, or indeed what the numbers are for Northern Altaran women who're 18 years old or younger.
Though if that were the case, why couldn't the bell curve have shifted since the Age of Legends, for genetic reasons?

Because genetics has nothing to do with strength?
