I think he should take a page out of RJ's book fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 19/09/2009 08:36:55 PM
And not give a crap about the trolling of internet fans. He has a huge fanbase that is bound to grow with the TV series. He can afford to ignore the loons who either pester him for information or are pissed at him because he's informative. To hell with them, because most of them will be reading the books when they come out anyway.

However, I do take exception to your statement that is aDwD were to be done quickly, it would have to suck.

As I understand it, the problems come due to the removal of the five year gap, which itself was a great equalizer which allowed Martin to put his characters at whatever point in their arcs he wanted.

He threw that away (maybe justifiably) and did what Jordan ended up doing. He altered to pace of his story so he could align the story arcs of his characters. While it has not (and hopefully will not) reach the slowness of pace Jordan used, he is working to prevent that by coming up with something that is pacy and allows him to align his characters.

For Jordan, the slower pace allowed him to have a story that was still coherent and flowed well, but the deadening of pace angered many fans. With Martin, delay caused by fear of doing what Jordan did has angered many fans.

I can't say which is worse. But the point remains that Martin should not react to fans. He is the best person to decide how to write his series. And that includes deciding when a book is ready for release. It doesn't matter what internet fans think, and he should behave accordingly.
