If you cannot say what is "good" about a passage you cited as an example of good prose, then surely you have no right to the tone you've used in most of this thread. FT is very clearly not saying he finds Jordan great or good or anything. His question is only about a passage you cited, and so far, all you have done is dismiss him.
Can someone explain to me how Jordan is not a particularly good writer?
