Because of the fact that it doesn't seem possible to have negative strength in the OP. I don't know if RJ realized that a normal distribution would mean negative strength is possible, though.
The more I think about it, the more I think it has to be skewed. It's the only way Egwene and Aviendha can both be above the overall population mean given the quote about both of them together matching Lanfear.

' />Seriously, what are you going on about? No one ever means "mathematically perfect normal distribution" when they say "normal distribution". It is perfectly reasonable to say it's a normal distribution even if there are no channelers with negative strength, just like it's perfectly reasonable to say height among humans follow a normal distribution, even though there are no people of negative height.
