You have to read the whole section to get the full gist. Basically Finn has a rather small gateway ... Small enough that Harine's stuff is being taken through by porters no cart. Then he starts apologizing to Rand and says "I've never been exceptional at gateways, not like Androl" he starts to elaborate "I had to...." And Rand cuts him off and tells him he followed orders and essentially to shut up. Flinn is obviously bothered by his lack in the gateway.
Flinn is apologetic because he takes long to return and Rand is a monster in that book. Everyone is scared of him. And we both agree that he isn't on Androl's level.
As for Logain, didn't you ever do a math problem in school and get the answer correct despite doing the work wrong? Whenever that happened to me I got docked points for essentially getting the answer correct by luck rather than from the real reason. Logain could be in for a nasty shock if he doesn't pay closer attention.
This is crazy. I can't believe you think RJ inserted Logain's comments to portray some sort of theme of ignorance. People have been saying for many books that gateway size and strength correlate. This merely follows through.
I agree that Logain could have been wrong about Rand, but people follow the laws of averages when they talk. Logain knows that Androl is pretty much the only one in the BT that violates this rule. He probably walks around the BT telling Dedicated that they are increasing in strength because their gateways are larger.
If Rand is held by a woman, what is more likely? That she is as strong as Lanfear or that its a woman like Berowin? Bearing in mind that Berowin is still the only woman we've seen with such an aptitude.
