But there are plenty of explanations other than RJ changed his mind that late in the series. I do think he made a whole host of these sorts of changes between TGH and TSR so it's possible he was still refining these things later in the series ... But I've always believed he kept many aspects of the OP vague just so he always had a loop hole to run through when an inconsistency appeared.
