OMG. Androl DOES have a Talent. NO ONE is disputing that. Onarishma Send a noteboard - 11/10/2012 10:50:41 PM
The man cannot channel with enough strength to crush a rock, but he can match Rand in making a Gateway. If it was as simple as flow affinity then Egwene would be making monster gateways too. In addition Androl clearly shows an ability with the actual weave that nearly no one else does. He's innovating with it to make it more useful for his lack of strength.

Also, simple Flow affinity is reliant on Strength. That just makes something easier for a channeler to control. Androl is displaying an ability that only a Talent can explain. He is performing a Weave with far less Power than he should be able to ... By your definition Berowin should also be able to make huge gateways and Androl should be able to Shield Rand ... If it was just affinity to Spirit that is.


the dispute is that just because he has a Talent that other people do too! There is no evidence for this ANYWHERE. Every weave is capable of being tweaked. Every weave require a certain amount of power or else the weave will disapate before you can complete it. This is demonstrated by Sorilea. But bigger gateways do not require more power and yet consistently stronger people make larger gateways.

But at no point have I said that Androl has an affinity Talent. I said his Talent is modulating. so even if you had some evidence that Egwene had above average strength in Spirit(which I don't even think is possible) that would have no bearing on her being able to modulated a specific weave. Likewise Berowin has a Talent for a completely different weave there is no reason to believe it would apply to any other weave even if it were Spirit based.

My point is that TRUE Talents are either Receptive or Modulating and that most weaves are NOT modulated. Affinity is the only source of difference between equally powerful channelers and believe the text supports that Spirit Affinity is directly proportional to strength across sexes. My statement do not suggest anything you've said.
