The Borderlands are probably the most militaristic culture of RandLand. I don't find their retaining more of the old language unusual. Military societies by nature are slow to change due to their regimented mindset. Additionally, they seem to revel in their millitary ways; you could even say they flaunt them. They are the Samuari of RandLand.


But their society was developed after the widespread adherence to the vulgar tongue, so they would be retaining a post-Old Tongue culture. Militaries are also formed in large part by the poorer, less educated people, and are a source of numerous neologisms and expressions rather than conforming to those favoured by the intellectual elite.

TarValon is a quite different animal entirely. There is a very strong line between the city and the Tower. The citezens are happy for the protection and wealth that the tower brings but they are no more eager than any other land to attract the attention of Sisters. Women won't wear shawls because the do not want to be accused of pretending to ba a Sister. Why in the world would folks wander around occasionally dropping smatterings of the old toungue? TarValen culture can be summed up by the phrase, "We are Aes Sedai, and you are not."


I would expect the people of Tar Valon to use more Old Tongue expressions only because they are more likely to hear them.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
