I had forgotten just how tedious that extended scene with the circus was until I read that description of his. The bits about the sexual explosion was amusing, considering the typical complaints about the fetishes on display and the clothing descriptions. Not much else to the commentary, though. I suspect the pacing has become numbing to him.
I agree completely that the circus was a total horror. But the Fires of Heaven is a fine book apart from that, though definitely far from fast paced.
You will notice, as I predicted, that none of the rather obvious elements that are interesting are commented upon or even mentioned.
You know, this series of pointless reviews reminds me of another sharply negative review of Jordan that I'd read. The website was called... inchoatus? Something like that.
They had the sense to keep it to one review, rather than 11 bemoaning the same thing. They managed to do a far better job detailing Jordan's failings, and in a lot less space than Roberts. In the midst of it all, they even managed to say that there were lots of interesting elements to enjoy, but the pace spoils it all, which is a fair review. Wish I could find it.
Author Adam Roberts tackled the WoT.
