Honestly, he comes off less like he actually wants to read the thing and more like he just wants to snark on it. I feel he's also playing up the LotR angle a bit too strongly; there may be some parallels in the early books, but he's really overextending the comparisons here. I mean Caemlyn = Lothlorien? Yeah, that's stretching things a bit. He doesn't seem to be paying much attention to the story either, for example, he can't recall if the Horn was introduced in the first book or not. The overall feel is bascially, "This is a long unoriginal series written by an American author for the money, so it's obviously trash as opposed to great literature".

It's not as bad as it could be, while he comments on the padding, he doesn't seem to completely dislike the style. Not to mention that WoT would feel pretty damn thin without the padding at all.


I think you were reading his comparison between Caemlyn and Lothlorien too literally and not from the stand point of a critique of story structure.
