I am basically through the first part and it has gotten *slightly* better. He has still completely failed to create even 1 character in the novel that seems either real or interesting, and his scientific errors continue to compound. I especially love his idea of droping a 50km milimeter thin tube out the bottom of an orbital habitat as a source of fresh air. Not 2 tubes, and intake and an out take, which would of course double the atmospheric drag of the single tube he did include which would have been more than enough to drag his 3 room tin can out of orbit. But hey, if you're going to ignore the atmospheric effects of a 50KM metal tube, and even posit that in 50 years there will be a material that can be dangled 50KM into a planetary well without shearing, please explain how you are going to pump atmosphere through 50KM of 1mm tube and have it be bi-directional. Puhleese... without an incredibley high speed pump the air flow will be miniscule. The scene when the character finishes unreeling the tube then calls the main character Klara over and is all excited about the COLD fresh air that tehy can feel blowing fro the tube. We will pass on the amount of airflow that could squeeze through the tube, adn any question about the amount of pressure differential that existed to cause it, but COLD air??? Uhhh atmospheric friction anyone??? 50KM of metal tube is dragging through the atmosphere and this guy is talking about COLD air. sheesh.
There are many more, and larger, political, philosophical, historical, and scientific errors/plot holes.
I reiterate and expand upon what I posted previously, this is an interesting premis, but it is far from a complete work. It needs 1 hell of a good editor and at least 1 major rewrite. I really hope it gets better.
